Valerie Williams Co’Motion Dance Theater is a professional modern dance company which has been performing and teaching in central Iowa since 1978. Located in Ames, it offers residents the opportunity to preview new shows and revisit old favorites in a season that typically includes three full length concerts presented in Ames City Auditorium. These concerts are affordably priced with reduced rate tickets offered to students and seniors.
As a repertory company, Co’Motion Dance Theater presents diverse programming designed to be accessible yet offering new ideas to audiences of all ages and all levels of dance experience. A quirky sense of humor, not always associated with this art form, distinguishes many of choreographer Valerie Williams’ works. Other dances, more serious and reflective, provide audiences with opportunities for introspective contemplation. In addition to concerts, the company shares the excitement and imagination of dance and movement through lecture/demonstrations, assembly performances, teaching and choreography residencies and master classes. A three week intensive performance workshop for children has been a part of Co’Motion Dance Theater’s outreach program since 1989.
Co’Motion Dance Theater strives to build awareness of and appreciation for modern dance. The company is proud of its commitment to education and outreach. It attempts to reach out to all members of the public through rebroadcast of its concerts on Ames Public Access Television.
