Dear Parent and Dancer,
We are pleased that you are joining us for Kids' Co'Motion this summer. We are
really excited about the plans for Worldscapes. The workshop runs Mondays
through Fridays, July 10-27, 2007, plus performances at 7:30 pm on Friday, July
27 and Saturday, July 28.
Daily Schedule is as follows:
10:00am-12:00pm Warm-up, technique,
improvisation, composition
12:00pm-12:30pm Lunch--Please don't forget your
sack lunch.
12:30pm-2:30pm Rehearsal for Concert
If you are not familiar with Ames or ISU campus, please call for directions to
the Forker building, where the children will be dancing for the first two
weeks. The third week we will be at the City Auditorium; more info later. You
can drop your children off in front of the building and arrange for them to
come out to meet you as you wait in the car, or you can pay to park on either
the top floor of the new parking ramp on Osborn Drive or in the pay lot next to
the Lied Recreation Center on Wallace Rd. There is a bus stop at the building,
as well as bike racks.
We will be working as modern dancers and will be going barefooted. Please wear
comfortable clothes for moving: shorts and T-shirt, or leotard and tights,
running/biking shorts, etc. We also suggest dancers have a pair of knee pads or
something (such as leg warmers or long socks) s/he can wrap around s/his knees
during long rehearsal periods in case there is any on-the-knees work. A hand
towel is another nice item to have as the dance studios are not air
conditioned.
Remember to pack a lunch; something that DOES NOT need to be in a refrigerator.
Vending machines with soda and general junk food are available to students in
the Forker Building. Water coolers are located close to the rehearsal studio.
Please bring a squeeze bottle or thermos of water for drinking during class and
rehearsal. Containers must be unbreakable, and NO open drink or food containers
are allowed in the studio. Packing a frozen bottle of water not only keeps
lunches cold, but allows students to have cold water with their lunch!
It would be greatly appreciated if we had some parent volunteers to help
supervise the students during the lunch break. This helps us maintain a good
relationship with the HHP staff, and allows Valerie and her assistants to relax
and prepare between morning and afternoon sessions. If you would be free on any
day from 12:00 until 12:30, and would like to volunteer, please give me a call.
Kids' Co'Motion is an intensive and exciting program. Students will be very
busy creating and learning dances. Students will be expected to respect each
other's person and property as well as the Forker Building and the Ames City
Auditorium. Students that are not able to maintain that standard of behavior
will be asked to leave.
If you have any questions or concerns or would like to volunteer, please
contact us.
Sincerely,
Susan Jackson
